Our Story

Every person has a story. Businesses from Fortune 500 to the local market all have stories of how they started, success, failure, and everything in between. Churches are no different. Here at Grace FWBC, our story started over 50 years ago. The Lord gave Pastor Guy Foster the vision to build a church right where we are today. If you look around today, it's a no brainer. The church sits on a prime location right in the middle of Johnson City. However, this wasn't the case 50 plus years ago. The area was barren farmland with no inclination of the growth that would take place in a 50 year span.

So why Grace FWBC, what makes us different? Well as we like to say around here, we stick to the stuff. What's the stuff? The Gospel of Jesus Christ. We are Gospel centered, Christ centered. We stick firm to the foundations of faith as you can find in our beliefs. The story that makes up Grace FWBC is that of being denominationally inclusive. If you look around our church and were able to ask, you would find people from various denominational backgrounds. From Pentecostal, Southern Baptist, Christian, Methodist, the list goes on. How, why? We are Gospel centered and not denominational centered. So even though we carry the Free Will Baptist as a denomination, you might still find us to be your church of choice. Maybe you are moving to the area from a location where the Free Will Baptist were not to be found. Perhaps you have heard of or even visited a Free Will Baptist church, but you're not sure if it's for you. We encourage you to give us a try. We think you will be pleasantly surprised with what you find.

Why are we Free Will Baptist? Why do we keep the denomination even though we have a congregation with a varied denominational background? That speaks to our 50 plus year history and story. Just like many other churches and businesses, names and the manner in which you go about doing things goes back to traditions and the origins. We value out beginnings and our 50 plus year history. We want to honor that history and yet move forward in fulfilling the Great Commission in the manner in which the Lord has called us.

So if you agree with our core beliefs and foundational doctrines. If you can agree with salvation is through Christ alone, and we as believers have been called to fulfill the Great Commission of making Disciples, we might just be the church for you. We hope you will take the time and visit us soon. We look forward to meeting you.
